I happened upon Matthias going through the Commander's desk. I understand that the boy is his assistant, but something seemed off about his reaction to seeing me.

He claimed it was to do with mission assignments. He may have been telling the truth.

[It's not like she can read, to know for sure.]

Have you interacted with him before this? I would be interested to hear your impression of him.

Never directly, but I've seen him about.

[There's a bit of a smile in her voice, or at least warmth.]

He seems quite decisive, in the way men are who doubt themselves. Like if he does not act now, in this way, he won't have the courage later.

[ Half rhetorical: ] You like him?

I see no reason not to. He is young, and, I think, eager to please.

The only question is who.
