No, but you want them to feel comfortable telling you if that's already their aim. Your goal is to gather information about current opinions. A girl who's blithely content to wait out the war has little reason to ask questions. But one who's not sure what to think, she can but may not have to, because everyone will want to tell her why she should think as they do.
And is it acceptable for a Tevinter slave not to know what to think? Are they allowed to think?
Mostly I'm asking about how cowed I should play it. Of course I know that they think.
It varies wildly depending on the magister, and since you're concocting your own you should choose what best fits your needs. That you've only just given up your freedom also makes a difference. I'd suggest mild to moderately. You want it to be believable that you chose this but also that you might choose something else with the right encouragement.

I posed as a kitchen maid in the house of a wealthy merchant who was believed to be part of a ring of slavers. There was another agent already in place as a guest, and I was supposed to be supporting him by passing messages and reports through grocery deliveries.

I dispatched the owner before he could kill me or destroy the records, then captured his brother before he could escape and warn the rest of their gang. They were both imprisoned and executed.
